Not everyone should be a lash trainer or supplier

Not everyone should be a lash trainer or supplier

There is this expectation in our industry that we are just going to naturally progress into not being on the tools… now I'm not saying that you can't progress, of course you can progress if that's truly what you want. But people sort of get to a point where they’re like, ah well what's next, what's next, what's next… and I always say there's so many ways to make money. You could become a manager, or if you own your own business - you could get staff and expand your salon.

So many people are like OK well I've hit that milestone, I'm going to become a trainer or I’m going to become a supplier because there's so much money in it. There is money in anything. You could quite literally pick up garbage and turn it into money. There is a person in my town that does that, and does it so well that country road bought them on. There is money in anything. But there is NOT money if you have no passion, if you're bringing on a lash line just because you think you're going make money. Then sit down and stop. Doing it is going to set you up for heartache and you're ultimately going to lose money. You have to have grit and game. And to stay in this business, you have to be willing to invest in yourself. You have to be willing to pay a business coach to help you advance. I'm telling you the people that say they get successful overnight, they don't actually get successful overnight. You've got to be kidding! They invest, they have grit and game and it's not just money flowing through the door.

Now talking about being a trainer, a trainer has to have so much passion for what they're doing. I have to be constantly educated and updated in giving the top freaking advice in the industry. And if you’re don’t, you know what happens… they crumble, they crumble and they get bad reviews and they change their business name and they try again. Then they make the same mistakes. If they're not bothering to keep themselves up to date, if there not bothering to actually give a damn about their students, I see this time and time again, I see so many people in the lash industry say I'm going to start a training or supply business. 2 years later, maybe less, they’re selling everything up and closing their business down. Why? They didn’t have a business coach or someone to help them on their journey and we're in it for the wrong reasons.

I cannot stress this enough, but the truth of the matter is you have to be in this, you have to have game, you have to have grit and if you don't know what you're doing you need to have a bloody business coach, because they're the ones that are going to help you get there faster. If you don't invest in yourself even as a trainer, even as a supplier, you are not going to make it.

So for my lash techs out there who are not making it as a lash tech and they think there will be more money in being a trainer or being a supplier, you're already making the same mistake. You haven't invested in yourself, you haven't built your business to a point where you can continue to grow and that you are fully booked (whatever fully booked looks like for you, for me that's only 80%). Essentially you haven't done the work from the ground. If you are thinking here’s a better shiny object, I'm going to go do that, I'm going to make so much money. You're actually not, because you're already screwing up, you're already not invested in your own journey.
